    The city of Alanya is a seaside resort city located in the Turkish Province of Antalya. The population is roughly about 400,000 people. The city itself is located on a peninsula that goes into the Mediterranean Sea. The town is located on the Gulf of Antyla. The town is sits on the border of the Taurus Mountains on the north and the Mediterranean Sea on the south but is considered a part of the Turkish Riviera. The town is separated by a rocky peninsula which is actually a good feature for the city. On the east side of the peninsula is the harbor and the Keykubat beach and the Damlatas beach is well known for their dipping caves. In the west the Cleopatra beach is located. They named the beach after Cleopatra because it is said that she visited there once or it was a part of the dowry from Mark Antony. That is up for debate though.

The climate in Alanya is a very moderate climate. The summers are long, hot and dry and sometimes you see a water spout during a storm cell. Because of the closeness of the mountains many mornings you will get a fog that rolls in and then turning into a rainbow as it dissipates. Also due to the elevation of the mountains snow can be seen on the top of the mountains, even in the middle of summer.

Tourism plays a big part in the economic status of the city. The tourist industry in this town is worth about 1.1 billion Euros making it the main industry here. There are places in the town that produce goods as well. Lemons, oranges, tomatoes, cucumbers and bananas. They make money as well.

The first modern motel was built in Alanya in 1958; it was then that the town was considered a tourist town. The city has now over 133,400 hotel beds. The draw to come to this town as the Damlatas Cave, the cave has established a reputation because of the microclimate in the cave. The temperature in the cave is about 72 degrees Fahrenheit and has a humidity of about 95 percent. You can access this cave by going to the west side of the peninsula and following the trails from the Damlatas beach.

The town also appeals to residents from countries like Scandinavia, Germany, Russia and Dutch choose Alanya in the warm months because it is close to them and it also is very reasonably priced. They are known for their white sand beaches and access to many of Alanya historical sites. On the beach you can wind surf, parasailing and Banana Boating.

Alanya is an unexpected vacation spot, most people have never heard of it and now maybe as we have described it, many more people may want to take a vacation there. It sounds heavenly with the beaches and the water activities and the caves. Think about it sounds too good to be true!
