    The geography of Turkey is approximately 1,600 kilometers which is equivalent to 1,000 miles long and about 800 kilometers which is 500 miles wide. The shape or the country is a roundabout rectangular shape. There are many inclusive lakes in Turkey that make up about 779, 452 square kilometers which is about 300, 948 square miles. But because of the location of the country, 755,688 kilometers are in the Southwest Asia and 23,764 square kilometers are in Europe. With the country located in two continents we call this a transcontinental country.

In terms of size, Turkey is the 37th largest country in the world. It is bigger than Chile or Texas, United States, the country is bordered by sides, the Aegean Sea is located in the west, The Black Sea is located in the north, the Mediterranean Sea is located in the south and the Sea of Marmara is in the northwest portion of the country. In the section of the country that lies in Europe, Turkey borders Greece and Bulgaria. The Asian section has very high plateaus and narrow coastal plains. The Köroğlu and the Eastern part of the Black Sea mountain ranges are in the north and the Taurus Mountains are in the south.

Turkey has many river sources located in the country, they have the Euphrates, Tigris and the Aras rivers and has Lake Van and Mount Ararat, which is Turkey’s highest point, is 16,946 feet high. The country has 7 regions Marmara, Aegean, Black Sea, Central Anatolian, Eastern Anatolia, Southern eastern Anatolia and the Mediterranean. The north Anatolian surface that runs along the Black Sea is almost like a narrow belt. This part of the country makes up one sixth of Turkey’s total land area. The inland plateau has become very rugged as it tends to extend eastward.

Turkey has many different landscapes that were formed due to the movement of the earth that has been happening for thousands and thousands of years. In the region there are risks for earthquakes so the land shifts if more prominent. Turkey has the occasional volcano eruption which may result in a terrain change. The Bosporus and the Dardanelles exist because of the fault line that runs through the country that leads to the start of the Black Sea.

The climate in Turkey is a Mediterranean temperature. The summers re hot and dry while the winters are wet and cold. The closer you get to the seas the weather is harsher. Because of the proximity of the mountains to the coast, they act as a shield from allowing weather influences to access the inland. This allows for the country to experience distinct climates such as winter, spring, summer and fall.

The winters on the plateaus experience colder temperatures because of the elevation. . The annual rainfall is bout 15 inches; all areas in the country will differ due to elevations. The driest regions in the country are the Konya Plain and the Malatya Plain where the rainfall is less than 12 inches. May is on record being the wettest month and July and August are the driest.
