Turkey has many inland rivers and they are surrounded by four seaports and harbors. The Black Sea is an inland sea that is located in between Europe and Anatolia, and it actually is only an arm length away from the Atlantic Ocean by way of the Mediterranean Sea. The Black Sea is connected to the Mediterranean by the Bosporus and the Sea of Marmara and the Sea of Azov by the Sea of Kerch. The flow of the Black Sea inlet of seawater through the Bosporus, 200 km3 per year. There is an inflow of freshwater from the areas, especially in the central and Middle Eastern Europe, that flow of water’s intake is roughly 320 km3 per year. The most key river that goes into the Black Sea is the Danube.
The Black Sea has an area of 436,400 kilometers squared with a maximum depth of 2200m. There are several countries that border the Black Sea, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Russia and Georgia. The Crimean peninsula is a Ukraine autonomous republic. Key cities that are along the coast line are Istanbul, Burgas, Varna, Constanta, Odessa, Sevastopol, Yalta, Kerch, Novorossiysk, Sochi, Sukhumi, Poti, Batumi, Trabzon, Samsun and Zonguldak.
The Aegean Sea is a sea of arm of the Mediterranean Sea which is located between the Balkans and the Anatolian peninsula. This is located in between the mainland of Greece and Turkey. In the north side it disconnected to the Marmara Sea and the Black Sea. The islands in the Aegean Sea are Crete and Rhodes. The sea was traditionally an archipelago in the sense that is they are now called the Aegean Island. This has a large quantity of islands.
The Mediterranean Sea is a sea of the Atlantic Ocean and it almost is enclosed by land. On the north is Europe, on the south is Africa and the east is Asia. It actually covers about 2.5 million kilometers which is converted to 965,000 square miles. But the connection to the Atlantic Ocean which you would think would be more but it is only 9 miles wide.
The Mediterranean Sea is called the Super Highway of transport. Trade and cultural exchanges happen every day through this sea. Regions like Mesopotamia, Egyptian, Semitic, Persian, Phoenician, Carthaginian, Greek and Roman cultures. The history of the Mediterranean is very important to understanding the origins and the development of Western Civilization.
Sea of Marmara is an inland sea that connects to the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea. It acts as a separator for the Asian sector of Turkey and from the European part. There are two major island groups in this sea, the Prince’s and the Marmara, The Marmara is a huge source in marble and it happens to give this sea its name. The Bosporus strait is connected to the Black Sea and the Dardanelles straight to the Aegean. The Dardanelles strait separates Istanbul into its Asian side as well as the European side. The Sea has an area of 11,350 square kilometers.
